R.V. Bill Conway, was with Southampton University. Specifically designed as a scientific, research, diving, teaching and surveying boat. She is a Lochin 38, licensed by the MCA/RYA allowing her to operate at sea up to 60 miles offshore and will comfortably accommodate 12 passengers plus two fully qualified crew. She was named after a long serving oceanography chief technician at the Southampton University.
The vessel operates out of Falmouth Cornwall. The crew have extensive knowledge of the area above and below the water, having operated charter boats from Falmouth for over 30 years. They are also experienced in the deployment of survey and scientific equipment, having worked closely with BBC, IFCA, Natural England, Historic England, Wessex Archaeology, Dive Solutions, Waterproof Media and the Royal Navy, to name but a few.
The vessel has a large open deck and spacious wheelhouse, equipped with lab benching a sink and a 240V AC mains supply with 13A sockets. To accommodate equipment deployment, the vessel has a 750kg capacity 'A' frame and winch and capstan, and a side mounted 50kg capacity davit. She has a full inventory of safety equipment, and electronics. The both Nigel and Jack (crew) hold PADI and BASC Diving Qualifications, Sea Rescue, First Aid, and Sea Survival Qualifications.
